The definition of a white collar crime is as follows: it is a wide range of crimes which involve deceit and financial gain. These crimes are typically non-violent. Yet, they obviously have their consequences. The most common white collar crimes are: tax fraud, embezzlement and money laundering.

There is also computer fraud which has unfortunately become quite popular these days. The main idea is that hackers steal such information as credit card numbers or bank information so that to get money from innocent people’s accounts. Health care fraud also exists. In most cases, an unlicensed care provider tries to provide services creating the impression that those services are absolutely legitimate. The result is monetary benefit for such services.

Speaking about punishment for white collar crimes, in the United States of America it can be community service, a fine, probation, restitution, disgorgement, imprisonment or some alternative punishment.
