Referring a friend to an employer is one of the most common ways of hiring someone. This method which is also quite often called ‘the word of mouth’ is considered to be one of the most effective ones. However, it is not quite true even though it is the fastest way to find a new employee.
Here are a few reasons why referring an employee does not always work. To begin with, the majority of employees is not engaged meaning that they are not going to actively promote the company they work for even when they are happy with the job the do and the compensation they get. What is more, employee referral is not going to work in case the employee is not happy with their employer.
Apart from that, it is important to remember that staff workers are not that good at networking to say nothing of the fact that they are not able to evaluate a potential employee the way a member of the HR team would.
